Countering Disinformation Masterclass

Phambano Technology Development Centre (NPC) in partnership with the Hive Mind community has scheduled the Countering Disinformation Masterclass Webinar on 2 August aimed at shedding light on the prevalent issue of disinformation today. This event will bring together experts, civil society organisations, and journalists from various fields to delve into the roots of disinformation, its impact on individuals and society, and effective strategies to combat and expose it. Attendees will gain insights and practical knowledge to become more discerning consumers of information.

Anton Harber, the Caxton Professor of Journalism (Adjunct) at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, has a 35-year career in journalism, media management, and training. He was the founder and editor of the anti-apartheid newspaper the Weekly Mail (now the Mail & Guardian), Editor-in-Chief of South Africa’s leading television news channel eNCA, and chief executive of Kagiso Broadcasting. He is a board member of the Global Investigative Journalism Network and a former chair of the SA Conference of Editors and the National Association of Broadcasters. He has served on the boards of the Freedom of Expression Institute, the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism, Kagiso Media, East Coast Radio, and Radio Jacaranda, inter alia. He is the convenor of judges for the Taco Kuiper Award for Investigative Journalism and has served as a judge on the Sanlam Financial Journalism Awards, the Vodacom South African Journalism Awards, and the CNN/Multichoice African Journalism Awards.  
 
Robyn Porteous holds a master’s in arts and is a journalist, publisher, and editor. She has written for Mail and Guardian and Daily Maverick. She is currently working for Real411 and is a member of the Southern Africa freelancers association.  
 
Chelesile Ndlovu-Nachamba is a community development communicator at PlanAct. She holds a Master of Law degree and has worked at Contemporary Foundation, One World Human Capital, and Green Matters.

Dominika Potkańska is responsible for ensuring the highest standards and quality of implementation of the portfolio of programs and projects in TechSoup Europe. She has experience in coordinating research, advocacy, and training projects in the field of media literacy, migration policy, intercultural education, and migrants and refugees’ integration in Poland and in the European Union. She also coordinated a social campaign on migrant women in Poland under the slogan “See the Invisible”.
